The Scipio Covered Bridge in Jennings County is one of just two covered bridges left in this county in southern Indiana. Scipio Covered Bridge is a small-town landmark that locals cherish. This small covered bridge across Sand Creek is one of the rare ones that is still open to traffic today.

Built between 1886 and 1887, this single-span wooden-truss-covered bridge was constructed using the Howe Truss design, a popular design of that era. Smith Bridge Company, a construction company based in Toledo, Ohio, did the job for $600. The bridge was later rehabilitated in 1984 and again in 2015 with a larger project to repair semi-truck damage to it. It was completely refurbished for more than $540,000.

Scipio Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This bridge sees about 50 vehicles per day.
